Hot Spring Trend: Bold and Bright Handbags
I’m looking for a new handbag. Something cute, bright and fun for summer. Maybe yellow or something equally as bright. (I know, I know, I’m known for my love of all things black, but it’s time to lighten up!)
Since it’s my first foray into color, I’d like to keep the spending under $600. Also, Nick would kill me if I hovered into Chanel territory again so soon. Here are some cute options I’ve found:
Marc by Marc Jacobs Karlie Leather Clutch
I am usually not a Marc Jacobs kinda gal. His cuts and prints are SO not me. But this little clutch might be the perfect mini-step into the world of bright purses. Plus, I’m a hardware fanatic, and the detail here is Tracey-approved. ($250, net-a-porter.com)
Jimmy Choo Tilda Patent Tote
Okay, okay, so this isn’t under $600. But I love the color and patent leather so much that I had to throw it in. I’ve always been a big fan of Jimmy Choo handbags but for some reason have never pulled the trigger. This might be a fun first dip into the Choo pool. ($950, neimanmarcus.com)
Prada Striped Canvas Clutch
How cute is this? It feels so ’80s preppy. I love the stripes, the colors and the shape. ($595, saksfifthavenue.com)
Kate Spade Chrystie Street Large Anisha
and
Kate Spade Flicker Bon Shopper
Yikes! Much like Marc Jacobs, I’m usually not a Kate Spade person. But when it comes to color, she really knows what she’s doing. I couldn’t decide these two so I decided to post both.
Top handle bags are big trend for Spring and this one is such a fun color. At $445, it’s a good price a fun, new bag. ($495, katespade.com)
Love the yellow. Simple, bright, fun, affordable—perfect for the beach. ($225, katespade.com)
Foley + Corinna Mid City Tote in Poppy
I love the shape of this bag. I love that you can carry it by the handles or fold it over and wear as a shoulder bag with its cute detachable strap. I almost bought this last month in black (surprise!) but perhaps this shade would be more fun for summer. ($395, shopbop.com)
Michael Kors Gia Flap Leather Shoulder Bag
Clearly I’m leaning towards yellow based on the number of yellow bags I’ve featured in this post and while this isn’t my favorite yellow one in the bunch, I think it’s really cute. It’s perfect if you have an office job and need a bag with clean lines. The hardware is nice too. ($595, saksfifthavenue.com)
Unrelated sidenote: I’m loving the bags in the Victoria Beckham line. Very sharp lines and pretty handles. But, if I’m going to drop between $2,600 and $4,500 on a bag, it’s probably not going to be on a VB bag….
Haute Look: Kate Middleton and Her Burberry Trench
It’s been awhile since I’ve posted, but nothing’s inspired me quite as much as the Burberry Trench Kate Middleton was spotted in at an official engagement with Prince William. This wool trench with frilled hem makes me wish I didn’t live in tropical weather!
I’m OBSESSED with the flare at the bottom — so fun and flirty! I’m a big, big fan of this overall look. Apparently this coat sold out in most sizes one day after she was photographed in it — I’m not surprised. It’s gorgeous. The look is fresh from the label’s spring/summer 2011 line.
This wool coat isn’t cheap at $995 BUT no one ever said Burberry trench coats were cheap! Check it out at Burberry’s site here.

Best Dresses of 2010, Friends Edition
After months of anticipation (ha!), I’m excited to present the Best Dresses of 2010, Friends Edition!
Back in July, I asked friends and friends of friends to send in photos of their favorite dresses. I also did some trolling on Facebook and found some gorgeous frocks as well. After sifting through all the submissions, I’ve narrowed down the list to these 11. They are in no particular order… but they are all fabulous!
Thank you to everyone who submitted and for all of you who allowed me to use your photos and dresses.
Elyssa C
Blaque Label
I love everything about this dress: the color, the length, the shoulder ruffle, the skirt around the waist… everything. And it fits Elyssa perfectly.
Kelly M
Diane von Furstenberg
The print of this dress is so wild and fun–and Kelly pulls it off wonderfully. You need a little sass in your style to wear this dress and Kelly does this effortlessly. Love the length and fit too.
Kristen S
Tibi
Kristen is one of the most stylish people I know. And with her model-like figure, she wears designer clothes beautifully. This Tibi dress is no exception. Fits her flawlessly… just gorgeous.
Hannah M
Catherine Malandrino
I love love love this yellow — and it looks so pretty on Hannah. Can you tell I like shoulder detail? The ruffles on this are so feminine and sweet. A perfect dress for a wedding!
Gillian B
Rebecca Taylor
I love how timeless this dress is–the cut, the sleeves, the pencil skirt. And Gillian wears it supremely — you can feel (and see!) the fun she’s having while wearing it. Love the splash of red too.
Meredith R
Marc Bouwer
I love Meredith’s unique sense of style: what she does with clothes always amazes and impresses me. And this dress is no exception. I love the color, the crystal detail, and the one-shoulder top. Super fun shoes too!
Chelsea G
Wolford
How hot is this dress?! Chelsea is absolutely rocking it. I love the bodice, the colors… and I’m also just a tad obsessed with the shoes! Fits her like a glove.
Megan S
The material, the fit and the colors of this dress create a look that screams effortless chic. And that’s just how I see Megan. She’s a mother of four that always looks put together in a classy and fun way. Love this!
Holly P
Alice + Olivia
I’m a total sucker for two-tone dresses and this one is fabulous. I love the strapless top, the length, the belt and the way it fits Holly superbly! You just can’t go wrong with Alice + Olivia dresses–they are always so fun!
Jen S
Nicole Miller
Few people can pull off a dress this sassy and form-fitting, but Jen nails it. I’ve been loving Nicole Miller’s funky fabrics the past few seasons and Jen shows how to really rock it. I also love the collar of this dress: classy and feminine with a touch of flirt.
Meredith D
Aqua
I was looking for the perfect little black dress to feature–and this was the hands-down winner. Aside from being a fun party dress, it really highlights Meredith’s showstopper legs. Not to mention those Pour Le Victoire heels. Hot, hot, hot!
A Quick Review: 2010 Emmy Night’s Red Carpet
I’ll keep this short and sweet: there were two dresses that really jumped out at me on last night’s Emmy red carpet: Lea Michele’s navy Oscar de la Renta and Sofia Vergara’s gold Carolina Herrera.
Lea Michele has been kicking butt on the red carpet since the debut of Glee. Event after event, she shows up looking sharp and classy. Her stylist gets an A+ for sure.
And this navy blue Oscar de la Renta is no exception. It’s stunning from the fitted bodice down to the last ruffle on her mini-train. Absolutely stunning.
GORGEOUS! Love the cut, love the detailing — and love how confident she is wearing it. Her hair, makeup and jewelry perfectly compliment the dress as well. It was a good, good choice.
And seriously, how beautiful is she?
Other dresses I liked: Claire Danes’ Armani Privé gown, Heidi Kilum’s Marchesa gown (though for a different kind of event) and January Jones’ Versace. Yes, January’s dress was a bit crazy but I kinda like that she rocked it.
Jessica Szohr Looks Cute, Right?
I was recently reading one of my favorite all-time blogs, Go Fug Yourself, when I came across this photo of Gossip Girl star Jessica Szohr at the premiere of her new film, Piranha 3D.
GFY didn’t really like, though I thought she looked super cute!
I’m not usually a huge fan of Jessica Szohr — her character on Gossip Girl is getting tired and she always looks so pained. But I can’t disagree that she is gorgeous and that this color red looks sensational on her. The layers of the dress seem perfectly placed — not too flowy, not too overwhelming — and the bow around the waist works with the rest of the dress. I don’t love the shoes though I don’t hate them either. The bag is fine.
Jessica also scores high points for her hair and makeup here. With a dress with that much personality, the hair needs to play second fiddle — which I think she’s done well here. Heavy eyes with a nude lip also compliments the look nicely.
What do you think of her dress?
Two Bags I Wouldn’t Mind Having
As you all know, I’m a bag person — I absolutely love love love handbags. And it’s about time for me to invest in my next one. While doing a little browsing, I came across these two pretty — but very different — bags. Here’s a quick look:
This Stella Mccartney is pretty cool. The color is so versatile and the detail on the straps and around the bag is so pretty. It seems like the perfect weight for Fall/Winter.
I love the pleated leather on this bag… and while I usually prefer silver hardware, I really like the gold on this. This seems great for quick trips to the mall, a casual night out or with a black sheath dress for work.
What do you think? Do you like them?
Celebrity Check Plus: Megan Fox
I went through a phase where I really liked Megan Fox. I thought she was crazy hot, funny, and pretty open about how she felt about things which I think is kinda refreshing (even if everyone else thinks it’s a bit abrasive.)
But soon enough, I got a little bored with her. Mostly because she was EVERYWHERE. But then she dropped out of sight(ish), went to Hawaii, and got married. And we didn’t hear peep from her. Granted, her ‘Johah Hex’ press tours are done and she’s got nothing to promote so there’s no real reason we should be hearing from her, but still, she’s stayed somewhat under the radar and it’s been a nice break.
Anyway, she popped up last night at the VH1’s Do Something Awards and she looked ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.
Even longtime Megan Fox haters can’t deny that she looks fabulous here. Her dress–a modest, pretty, and sweet Azzedine Alaia–is so unlike her regular red-carpet gear that it’s almost jaw dropping in its effect. The color is unusual–and perfect with her sunkissed skin, dark hair, and perfectly-applied makeup. Even the matchy-match Brian Atwood shoes look good.
Fox looks mature–and it’s becoming on her. It’s proof she can pull off pretty, NOT just sexy and/or sultry.
I hope this is the first of many sharp looks to come.
Coming Soon: Best Dresses 2010, Friend Edition
Okay guys, I’ve decided to do a Best Dresses feature where I highlight the 10 best dresses my friends have worn over the year. Why should we limit Best Dressed lists to celebrities? You guys are super stylish and I want to celebrate your fabulous fashion sense!
I plan on selecting dresses from facebook galleries, photos friends have sent around, and from submissions. That’s where you come in. If you or one of your friends has worn an amazing dress, send me a pic! If you know the designer or brand, please include. There is no limit to the amount of times one person can be featured on the list so send away!
In a couple weeks, I’ll select the Top 10 list. Sadly, there is no prize–just the satisfaction of knowing you dress well. (That’s enough, right?)
By the way, many of you are already on the list–but before I publish any photos, I will get explicit permission.
To make submission, click here.
Thanks in advance for your submissions and I can’t wait to reveal my friend’s hottest dresses!
A Perfect Pair: Christian Louboutin Miss Fast Ankle Boots
I’m a big Louboutin fan… I think he makes amazing shoes and I’m still not over the red sole. In fact, every time I think I’m sick of the red, I’ll stumble across another pair of fabulous heels or boots.
And today, I came across these beauties:
Right? How cute are theses? In fact, I think they are the perfect bootie. Some booties are a little too crazy for me. My style is more tailored/classic and some of the booties on the market seem too ornate for me. But these. THESE ARE FANTASTIC! Simple cut. Platform for comfort. Elegant split front. And great height.
And the taupe color! Love these!

Celebrity Check Plus: Jennifer Lopez at Apollo Awards in NYC
Last night Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Antony received the Ruby Dee & Ossie Davis Arts and Humanitarian Award at the Apollo Theater Spring Benefit Concert & Awards in New York. And blah blah blah… what mattered was her dress! It was hot!
The gold, sequined number with a plunging neckline and curve-hugging fit was absolutely stunning. Her hair and accessories were perfect too. Loved the shoes and bag. (Update: Thanks to Libbey’s sleuthing, I can report the designer is Gianfranco Ferre.)
Check plus, Jennifer, check plus. (I actually really like her.)
