A Must Read: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo

Several months ago, after seeing multiple reviews for it in EW and other publications I respect, I decided to buy and read the book, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. And within the first few pages, I knew it was a little different–in fact, it was spectacular.

The book centers around two main characters; a young female computer hacker and a middle-aged journalist. The writing, the dialogue, and most of all, the character compositions are outstanding. The female heroine, Lisbeth Salander, is by far the best character I’ve discovered in the past decade. So interesting, so complex.

Sadly, the author Steig Larsson died in 2004. He wrote two sequels, The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, but died while writing the fourth in the series. Rumor has it he was planning on writing 10 total books featuring Lisbeth Salander.

This book, and the two sequels, truly were amazing. They were like candy (or chocolate for all you chocolate lovers) — I couldn’t wait to read them and once I picked one up, I couldn’t put it down. The third one isn’t even available in the US yet — but my friend ordered a copy on Amazon UK and let me borrow it. That’s how obsessed we were with this author, these books, and the pixie-haired heroine named Lisabeth Salander.

Trust me, it’s worth the read. And let me know what you think if you do pick it up….

The Perfume That Will Catch Everyone’s Nose

Miss Marisa

Since the first time I smelled Miss Marisa, I’ve been obsessed. It’s light, flirty, and unique. Ebba Los Angeles, a little company/boutique in Los Angeles makes it and it’s divine.

Ebba describes is as “For those true perfume addicts. Wisps of Plum Blossoms and Cassis romance Fresh Mint and Waterlily, in a dance for the senses.” From my own personal experience, I’ve never worn a perfume that elicits as many compliments as this does. It’s been featured in InStyle, Elle, Lucky, and Us Weekly (Carmen Electra and Kourtney Kardashian are both fans too.)

It’s a little pricey at $62 for .5 oz but it comes in a small bottle with a rollerball as the applicator — so it actually lasts a pretty long time.

While it’s sold in a handful of boutiques around the country, I usually just order mine online here.

Welcome to the Hot Pink List

How hot are these shoes? They're the same YSLs in the header...

I love clothes. And shoes and handbags. And scarves and coats and boots. I also love make up. And movies. God, I love a good movie. And good TV! And cocktails and a great white ale. I love it all.

I also like to write, so I’m combining all of this into a blog. I didn’t want to focus on JUST fashion or JUST entertainment so I’m doing both. Back in a former work life, I created the idea of ‘The Hot Pink List’ as a girlie list of all my favorite things. I liked the name then and still like it now so I’m hacking it and using it again here for my blog.

My goal is to update this daily with something: a dress I love, a bag I covet, a TV show clip that made me laugh, a must-see movie suggestion, or a cocktail recipe I think you should try. I’m excited and can’t wait to start.

Introducing… The Hot Pink List!
